Mrs. King, is not just our 6th grade teacher, but she is also a CCS alum! Mrs. King, who just recently celebrated her first wedding anniversary attends Ross Baptist Church. She also coaches our Junior High Girls Volleyball and Basketball teams, pouring into the next generation of athletes both on and off the court. Her favorite Bible verse right now is Psalm 23: "The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want..." She says this passage helps her “put my trust and my anxiety to the One who knows it all.” Mrs. King has many cherished memories at CCS, but a few that stand out include: Winning a tough 3-set match against Victory in her first year coaching JH volleyball and Elementary Field Day with her first 6th grade class when a surprise thunderstorm turned their day into an unforgettable, rain-soaked adventure as they raced back to the building together. Outside of the classroom, Mrs. King is a proud dog mom to two dachshunds and loves Dunkin’ coffee. When asked why she loves teaching at CCS, Mrs. King shared, “Teaching here has opened so many doors of opportunity, including coaching volleyball and basketball. Being able to be with these kids and pour into them academically and spiritually has been a blessing in my life. A work environment where the gospel is at the center is amazing.” Happy Teacher Appreciation Week Mrs. King

Mrs. Melton’s journey with CCS started in 2010 when her son joined as a homeschooled athlete. That first step quickly grew into a deep-rooted commitment to the CCS community. In 2012, she enrolled her son full-time, and by 2013, her two youngest daughters joined our preschool classes. From serving on the school board to returning to school to be able to lead in the classroom as a history teacher in 2017, Mrs. Melton’s heart for CCS has only deepened over the years. She has been married to Mark for 16 years, and their eldest child graduated from CCS in 2014, with the two youngest children still attending CCS, the only school they have ever known. Together, the family worships at Flourish Church in Gary, Indiana. Today, she serves as our secondary principal and the dual credit instructor for the social sciences, English, and history. For Mrs. Melton, CCS isn’t just a workplace – it’s an extension of her family. She shares , “I stay at CCS for my children. That might sound selfish, but it’s really the opposite. Everything I do to help grow the school spiritually, academically and socially for my daughters, I do for every student. I see them all as my children.” From the unforgettable senior trip of 2021, where she enjoyed a week with who she considers the best class ever at CCS, to watching her daughters lead worship in chapel and the Voices of CCS, Mrs. Melton’s Calumet Christian memories are woven into the very fabric of her life story. Please join us in wishing Mrs. Melton a Happy Teacher Appreciation week.

🌟 Teacher Appreciation Week Spotlight 🌟 It is time to celebrate Mrs. Angel, who has been a part of the CCS family for 4 years. Mrs. Angel first connected with CCS when she enrolled her children, eventually becoming a hot lunch volunteer, then a substitute teacher, aftercare staff member, and now serves as our elementary Spanish teacher! She has been married for 16 years and has 4 children who all attend CCS, including her eldest son, a graduating senior of the Class of 2025. Her family worships together at Casa de Gracia in South Holland. Mrs. Angel’s favorite Bible verse is Proverbs 17:17: “A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.” She says, “I love this verse because I don’t have any siblings, and I didn’t get to meet my parents, so I see everyone as a friend and family.” One of her most cherished CCS memories is seeing the kids worship and praise God—a beautiful reminder of the power of faith and community. When asked why she loves being at CCS, Mrs. Angel shared, “I love the people that I work with, and we grow and learn from each other.” Help us show some love to Mrs. Angel today for all she does for our students and school community! 🌟 Teacher Appreciation Week Spotlight 🌟 We're excited to celebrate Mrs. Abbie Kish, a cherished part of our CCS family for the past 6 years! Mrs. Kish first joined CCS as a parent, bringing her now senior son to middle school here. She and her husband, Mark, have been married for 25 years and have three wonderful children—ages 17, 10, and 7—all thriving at CCS. They worship together as a family at The Gate Church. Currently, Mrs. Kish serves as both our elementary music teacher and school secretary, two roles where her heart for students and love for the Lord shine through daily. Her favorite Bible verse is Isaiah 40:31:
"But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint."
This verse carried her through a challenging season of waiting for the blessing of children, reminding her of God’s faithfulness. Mrs. Kish says one of her favorite memories at CCS is “Every time I get to see my own kids thriving along with their friends and classmates.” She treasures the strong partnership between parents and teachers at CCS, saying, “My kids have thrived in this environment, and I’m so thankful He led us here.” When asked why she loves working at CCS, Mrs. Kish shared, “I was looking for employment during school hours so I could still be home with my kids. God opened the door for me to be at CCS, and I enjoy it so much—it doesn’t feel like work!” Help us celebrate Mrs. Kish, this Teacher Appreciation Week. #TeacherAppreciationWeek #ThankYouTeachers #CCSFamily #FaithfulFoundations #ThrivingTogether

Today, we're also excited to highlight Coach Seth Dee, one of the passionate and committed educators who make CCS such a special place! Coach Dee currently teaches math, but his journey with CCS began on the football field as part of our coaching staff. After a year coaching at the college level, he felt called back to CCS—this time, to lead in the classroom while coaching both football and wrestling. A member of Living Stones Church in Crown Point, Coach Dee lives out his faith both on and off campus. His favorite Bible verse is Colossians 3:23–24:
"Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ."
He says this verse reminds him to do everything with excellence, not just to get by, but because we ultimately serve Christ in all we do. One of his favorite CCS memories is Championship Weekend at IWU, where the team brought home 3rd place—a moment of teamwork, grit, and pride he’ll never forget. Coach Dee says he loves working at CCS because it’s a place that truly loves Jesus and isn’t afraid to show it. A place where “the Important One stays the most important.” We’re so thankful for Coach Dee’s leadership, heart, and commitment to excellence. Help us celebrate him today for Teacher Appreciation Week!

🌟 Teacher Appreciation Week Spotlight 🌟 It is time to show our thanks for Ms. Cathy Matthews, who has been pouring her heart into 1st grade at CCS for the past 4 years! Ms. Matthews is a proud mom of two adult daughters and a son and attends Jesus Christ Outreach Ministries in Gary. Her favorite Bible verse is 1 Peter 2:9: "But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light." She says this verse “gives me permission to be different, like I am.” For Ms. Matthews, one of the most meaningful parts of working at CCS is the opportunity to pray for her students and worship together in chapel. She loves being in a place where faith is celebrated and shared openly with a community that keeps Christ at the center of all we do. We are so grateful for the light Ms. Matthews brings to our school family. 🌟 Teacher Appreciation Week Spotlight 🌟 Let's celebrate Mr. David Romesburg, who has been teaching at CCS for the past 3 years. Mr. Romesburg is married to our amazing kindergarten teacher, Mrs. Romesburg, and together they have two boys, a current 6th grader and our newest young patriot baby, a future member of the Class of 2043! His favorite Bible verse is Matthew 11:27: “No one knows the Son except the Father and no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son reveals Him.” Mr. Romesburg says he loves this verse because it highlights the exclusive relationship between the Father and Son, emphasizing the unique role Jesus plays in revealing the Father to others. When it comes to memories at CCS, it’s hard for Mr. Romesburg to pick just one. However, one of his favorite parts of the week is sitting in on 9th and 10th grade small groups on Wednesdays after chapel. He says, “I look forward to that time every week.” As for a lighter memory, he recalls the time he and Pastor Steve were taped to the wall in the gym during lunch—a hilarious moment that still brings a smile to his face. 😂 Mr. Romesburg has deep roots in Griffith, having prayed for this community since his days at Griffith High School. Now, he lives in Griffith, works at a school in Griffith, and is pouring into the next generation of this town’s leaders. He says, “God has a funny way of working things out, lining things up, and placing us exactly where we are supposed to be.” Help us show some love to Mr. Romesburg for Teacher Appreciation Week! 🎉💛 #TeacherAppreciationWeek #CCSPatriots #ChristianEducation #ThankYouTeachers #CCSFamily #RootedInFaith #WhereIBelong

🌟 Teacher Appreciation Week Spotlight 🌟 Let's Celebrate Pastor Brett Clayton, a pillar of our CCS family for the past 8 years. Pastor Clayton wears many hats at CCS. He serves as our Spiritual Services Coordinator and primary Bible teacher, guiding students in their walk with Christ. But his impact doesn’t stop there. He has also taught Physical Education, coached Junior High Girls and Boys Basketball, Assistant Varsity Boys Basketball, Head Coach for the back-to-back State Champion Varsity Girls Basketball team, and the Head Football Coach for our state-qualifying Varsity Boys football team. In fact one year when we were experiencing a shortage for math teachers, he even taught Algebra II. Pastor Clayton and his wife, Stephanie (also a beloved CCS teacher), have been married for 19 years. All of their children attend CCS, with their eldest graduating in 2024 and now attending college. They worship together at The Sonrise Church in Lake Station. Pastor Clayton’s favorite Bible verse is 2 Corinthians 12:9-10: "But he said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.' Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me." He says, “It explains my story and HIStory for my life. God’s grace is sufficient.” Pastor Clayton has so many cherished memories at CCS, including: 🏆 Sports – “Beating the 2x Conference Champions in the playoffs” and “Winning back-to-back State Championships in girls’ basketball.” 🎓 Family – “Watching my oldest child, Faith, walk across the stage.” 🙏 Spiritual Impact – “Seeing our students grow closer to the Lord during the 2023-2024 school year. It was as if revival swept through the school.” When asked why he’s still here, he says simply, “I’m just glad that God sees fit to use a Nobody, to tell Everybody, about Somebody, who can change Anybody.” He initially came to CCS to remove his child from the area middle school, but he stayed because, “It was the greatest decision we have ever made as a family!” Help us thank Pastor Clayton today for his faithful service, heart for ministry, and passionate leadership! 🙌🏈🏀📖 #ChristianEducation #CCSPatriots #TeacherAppreciationWeek #ThankYouTeachers #CCSFamily #KingdomImpact #FaithFirst

: 🌟 Teacher Appreciation Week Spotlight 🌟 This morning, we’re excited to shine the spotlight on another one of our incredible teachers, Mrs. Romesburg! Mrs. R has been a beloved part of the CCS family for 5 years. She first joined us as a parent in 2019, quickly stepped into a part-time role as an aftercare aide, and has worn many hats since! From gym teacher to substitute nurse, tutor, 4th-grade aide, art teacher, and now our amazing kindergarten teacher, Mrs. R has faithfully served wherever she’s been needed. She’s married to our science teacher, Mr. R, and is the proud mom of two boys. Her favorite Bible verse is Proverbs 31:25: "She is clothed with strength and dignity, and she laughs without fear of the future." This verse carried her through hard seasons as a single mom and continues to remind her that through prayer, she can face any chapter of life. For Mrs. R, CCS isn’t just a job, it’s a second home. She starts every day looking forward to seeing her students’ smiling faces and working alongside coworkers who feel more like family. She says some of her closest friendships have started right here. It's Teacher Appreciation Week, and we want to celebrate the superstar teachers at CCS! Ms. Shloss has been a part of the CCS family for 32 years. She first joined as a Calumet Baptist student in 1993 and then decided to come back to CBS to teach for one year. As an active alumna, she never left her love of CBS, now CCS. After 15 years of teaching across three states, this year, she returned to be our ELA department head after earning three bachelor's degrees in English, Psychology, and biblical studies and a master’s in Community Counseling. Ms. S, as the students call her, attends Spirit of God Fellowship in South Holland and has far too many favorite moments at CCS to share them all. Some of her favorite moments include winning the poetry award at Nationals as a senior in high school. She shares that it was a huge shock and a turning point in her life, explaining, “I was never the smartest kid, the most athletic kid, or any other superlative kind of kid--but suddenly, I was good at one thing!” As a teacher, she also shares that taking students to the State competition for drama was a favorite moment, as it was also an excellent chance for kids who didn't have an opportunity to shine in typical school areas to use their gifts. Today, she is still in touch with most of those students, and they are still using those gifts, finding joy in giving those students the same thing that was given to her as a student.
