October is Pastor Appreciation Month, and we sure appreciate the many pastors and pastor's wives who give their time and talents to serve at Calumet Christian School.
We'd like to introduce you to one of those families: the Obingers!
We are blessed to have Pastor Dan Obinger and his wife Brenda both working at CCS! Dan has pastored for 24 years, with Brenda at his side. They currently serve at Griffith Baptist Church.
At CCS, Pastor Obinger is our very handy Director of Information Technology, while Brenda is our beloved School Nurse. They've been a part of this school for many years, back when we were known as Calumet Baptist School, and their twin daughters began attending Precious Jewels Academy, the CBS preschool.
"Our children started in preschool and graduated from CCS," they say. "We’ve never really stopped being a part of the school for the past 25 years."
When asked what they like best about the school, the answer is easy. "Ultimately, the students," they agree. " It’s great to work with our brothers and sisters on staff in this ministry, but pouring our lives into the students is what brings the greatest joy."
Having the opportunity to serve as a team while proclaiming the Word of God in their church capacity is also special to them. While Dan preaches to and teaches the adults, Brenda’s ministry is with the children. She loves how they can be sponges, soaking up the Word.
They have many, many memories they treasure from their time at CCS, including winning the NACA tournament with their girls three straight years, as well as watching the basketball team their son’s senior year win the Hammond Baptist Varsity Tournament. "But nothing surpasses seeing students give their lives to Jesus and then leaving CCS to go on to serve Him," they say.
Before their time here in Indiana, Dan was an associate pastor in Michigan, while Brenda worked with Alzheimer’s patients in nursing homes.

Pastor Obinger: Ephesians 2:4-5: “But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved).”
Brenda: Proverbs 3:7-8: "Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the Lord and depart from evil. It will be health to your flesh and strength to your bones."
It's not all work for the Obingers. They love family time and have three children: son Darric and twin daughters Cassie and Kaylie. Darric works at Moody Bible Institute and is married to Rachel with a son named Elias. Cassie is married to Mac Zambrano and they have a daughter named Izzie. Mac is a youth pastor in Brownsburg, IN. Cassie teaches computer science at Bethesda Christian School in Brownsburg. The Obingers have two dogs, Belle and Mitzy, who spend most days in Dan’s office. Brenda enjoys shopping and cleaning. Dan enjoys most sports, but especially disc golf.
We are so happy to have the Obingers as part of the CCS family, and we feel that way about all of our pastors on staff. Please let them know they are appreciated--pray for them and tell them thanks for all they do!
